Michael Dewitt, age 45, of Seymour in New Haven County, is being accused of a September assault on a child that sounds very similar to one he was accused of committing last month, Waterbury Police said.

A girl told investigators she was walking home from school on Sept. 28 when a man lured her into his truck and sexually assaulted her. Police later identified that man as Dewitt, Waterbury police said.

Authorities charged him on Oct. 25 with:

  • Sexual assault — first degree
  • Sexual assault — fourth degree
  • Commercial sexual abuse of a minor

Police served him the warrant on Friday, Oct. 25, in jail, where he was already being held for allegedly doing the same thing to another girl younger than 13 at Fulton Park on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

He was previously charged with:

  • Illegal sexual contact with a child under 13
  • Sexual assault in the fourth-degree
  • Kidnapping in the third-degree
  • Employing a minor in an obscene performance
  • Aggravated sexual assault of a minor
  • Risk of injury to a minor

He was being held on a board of $550,000, and the new charges added an additional $750,000.

Police ask anyone with information on this incident or any others involving Dewitt to contact Waterbury detectives at (203) 574-6941.
